It was one year ago today that we were sitting in a hotel room in PA looking at our tiny 3 month old little girl for the first time. We had so many emotions - shock, excitement, amazement at her and at what we were doing, fear, anxiety. But most of all we felt an overwhelming amount of love for the beautiful little girl we were holding in our arms.
Nicholas hardly let me hold her. He changed her first diaper, gave her her first bath, rocked her to sleep, fed her all her bottles. I don't think either of us slept that first night! He has continued to be an amazing father, he helps with everything. And Eliza adores him! Last night, Eliza and I were in the kitchen cooking dinner when the door opened and in walked Nicholas. Eliza clapped her hands and ran toward him yelling at the top of her lungs! She was so excited to see him!
She has become my little shadow. Everything she sees me do, she has to copy. My favorite is that as we met Eliza's birth parents we discovered that both of them are shy and very quiet. I asked Nicholas where he thought Eliza learned to be so loud. He just looked at me and said "Really?" She definetely has learned to use her voice! Right now as I am typing, Eliza just came up to me and pulled on my leg to get the chair to swivel around so she could climb up on my lap and try to type!
Today, she is not feeling well. She has a runny nose and a cough and a slight fever. Even though she is sick she still wants to play and smile. Below you will see a picture I snapped just a few minutes ago. You can tell she is not feeling good but she still is getting into the utensil drawer to pull out everything she can find.
Oh, how we love our little girl!
