We had a blast! It was so relaxed. We stopped where we wanted and played. When we were ready to stop for the night, we used our phones and booked a hotel wherever we were. It was fun and spontaneous, something that we are not normally good at!
Here are a few pictures (um, by a few I mean....a lot!)
We decided to try a few of the Food Network restaurants that have been featured. Nicholas found one that claimed to have great biscuits and gravy. Since he knows that is one of my top comfort foods, we decided to give it a try. We got lost. And ended up on a backroad in Kentucky. Finally we figured out what the map was saying (no gps in West Virginia and most of Kentucky!).
We were hungry. Nick ordered about everything on the menu. I was shocked when he got a steak for breakfast. I had never seen him eat a steak for breakfast. But he at it all. Everything was good, not as good as my mom's, but good!
Every once in a while we got out to play.
And when we saw a sign for Santa Claus, Indiana, we just had to stop. This was a lot of fun. Eliza was especially excited and got her picture taken with Santa (fake and real, but the real picture we don't have a digital copy of).
Z traveled really well. She slept a lot and watched her movies. We had a few coloring books and activities for her as well. She seemed to love traveling.
Another food favorite is doughnuts. Always looking for good ones. We went to two places in Missouri. Both were good (but nothing beats Dunford Doughnuts so far).
This is Old Town Doughnuts in Fenton, Missouri. We met Grandma and Grandpa Great the day after Thanksgiving for some donuts. Z was excited about sprinkles on her doughnuts.
But she didn't want to share!
Here is Grandma and Grandpa Great with Z and dad. So cute.
Eliza was most excited about riding the horse. Aunt Laurie took her out on Woody and she was in heaven. She was almost in a trance when I took her off. I think we may need to get her in horse riding lessons! Maybe she will take after Grandma Sheneman and be a barrel racer!
One of our favorite places we went was the City Museum in St. Louis. It was worth it! So much to do. We wished we would have had more time.
Liza really wanted to ride the train but we couldn't go with her. You can only ride if you are under 48". She was a little concerned about the little person who drove the train (Aunt Erin understands this!)
Here she is going down the "slide" with Uncle Brent. Brent was great. He took her through tunnels and down slides. He was like a little kid! Eliza loved it.
Here she is swinging like a monkey. I had to pry her off of this so other kids could have a go. She loved swinging.
We had a chance to stop at Grandma and Grandpa Great's house before we left Saturday morning. So nice to see family. We wished we lived closer. Eliza fell in love with Grandpa Great. When we went anywhere she asked if he was coming and if she couldn't see him, she would start asking where he was. She loved to tease and play with him. He seemed to love it too.
We stopped at another children's museum in Indiana but it was closing so we went to the gift shop instead. Eliza didn't know the difference! They had so many toys to play with on display. She got lots of wiggles out. Outside of the museum they had some fun things to climb on and some really cool dinosaurs. It was a good break.
Dinosaur Z!
It was a fun trip but it is nice to be back at home as well.

wooo hooooo for road trips, one of the best things you can do for Z...just my opinion ;) St. Louie looked super fun!
