Birthday Party for Z!

When Eliza was asked if she wanted a princess birthday or a dinosaur birthday she (of course) said "RAWR". So a dinosaur party it was!

At first she was a bit overwhelmed with the number of kids that came (9 three year olds!) but she warmed up as we played games.  The kids colored at first, then played with balloons and "dino" bowling.  After that it was time for a good old fashioned Dinosaur Romp!

Nicholas painted dinosaur feet.  My favorite moment of getting ready for this event was the evening before at 11pm as Nicholas is outside in the freezing cold spray painting the feet he turns to me and says "I feel like a dad."  Melted my heart.  He's a great dad!

We did a "cake walk" for the Dinosaur Romp.  The kids strapped on their feet and marched around a circle to music until it stopped.  Then they got a prize.  Ok.  That was how it was supposed to look.  It was much more chaotic!  The feet didn't stay on all of them, some didn't want feet.  Others put them on their hands, some couldn't walk with them.  But it was fun nevertheless!

Then we brought out the cake.  That was a huge hit.  All the kids gathered around as we sang and after Eliza blew (attempted to blow) out the candles, everyone told me which piece of the dinosaur they wanted to eat!

I made jello "tar pits" and had little plastic dinosaurs at the bottom so the kids could dig them out.  That was the biggest hit.  Eliza dug out hers then helped at least 3 others get theirs!  A paleontologist in the making!

They ate, then they helped Eliza open her gifts.

In all, I think it was a success.  Most of all, we think Eliza had a lot of fun.

Happy Birthday, Dinosaur Z!
